Recruiting

Recruiting is easier when there’s something real to recruit.

What coaches actually look for. What is a waste. Guide him. Don’t become his agent. He hits send. You sit next to him.

College coaches do not care how many wins you had at the 13-year-old level. They don’t ask what organization he played with at 15. They are looking for a player who can help them win games — skills, athleticism, and character.

For a position player that’s the five tools. For a pitcher: velocity, command, off-speed, and movement. If he doesn’t have those skills yet, more exposure will not help him.

MLB is drafting more college players for the same reason. They want to see what he’s actually done. High school isn’t the draft board. It’s the work.

Guide. Don’t become his agent. Help him write the email. Sit next to him. Then he hits send.
