He is not a weekend product. He is not a reason to sell a family a “national championship” at 9U, or a recruiting package before his physical tools are real. If an organization’s calendar crowds out the family, it is no longer a development program. It is just a business wearing spikes.
Development takes a decade, not a weekend
Real player development is slow work. It takes a decade to get from t-ball to college. It happens through simple things: a game of catch, a hitting net, and radical honesty about where a player’s skills actually sit. We build a love for the game first, then the work ethic, and finally, the level he can actually play.
The classroom of the diamond
Baseball is one of the best classrooms we have to build character — if we treat it that way. It teaches work, failure, supporting a struggling teammate, and showing up when nobody important is in the stands. The physical tools might get a player looked at, but the young man is what we are actually building. If he never plays a single pitch in college, the years still have to count.
Good coaches support, parents lead
The parent is always the one in charge. A good coach adds a standard and a team; he does not replace the family. You have your son’s best interest at heart. Good coaches are your support staff, not the enemy. You cannot replace active parenting with another paid adult and call it a development plan.

Why CageRat exists
I spent 16 years at CageRat and built an 84,000 sq. ft. facility. We operated that building for five years. The part that lasted was never the velocity numbers. It was the fathers and the sons.
