Size and Strength Separate High School From College
Tad Reida
Most high school players underestimate what size and strength do for the tools. On a college field the first thing a freshman notices is not a new drill. It’s that the upperclassmen are grown.
There is no excuse not to be in the weight room regularly. Lean muscle helps the 60, the arm, and the exit velo. That’s the whole argument.
This is not bodybuilding. Low reps, heavy enough, explosive. Squats, hinges, med-ball, chin-ups. A trainer who understands athletes is worth more than a random “baseball performance” brand.
You don’t need to become his S&C coach. You need to make sure the work exists, that it doesn’t wreck his arm, and that he eats like someone who wants to add weight instead of surviving on gas-station food after games.
Strength is one of the few things that’s honestly easy to improve. Treat it that way.
