NCAA Eligibility and the Sliding Scale

Tad Reida

If he wants NCAA baseball, eligibility is a rules problem, not a vibes problem. Core courses. GPA. Test scores where they still matter. Register with the eligibility center on time.

The sliding scale is the tradeoff between GPA and tests. A higher GPA buys you room. A lower one does not. Hoping a counselor “handles it” is how families get a letter in June that ruins July.

This is one of the few parts of recruiting a dad can actually own without becoming an agent. Calendar the courses. Know which classes count. Don’t let him take the easy junior year because baseball is “picking up.”

JUCO is a real path and a good one for a lot of kids. It is not a punishment. Sometimes it’s the cleanest way to get the classroom and the tools in the same place.

Do not outsource this to a recruiting service. They will not sit in the guidance office with you.
